workshop on ‘the clouds’
In Aristophanes’ play The Clouds we see Socrates being mocked for turning from Zeus' authority to follow female deities, the cloud goddesses. Aristophanes explores the importance of science and rhetoric, and considers the divinity in nature. The afternoon will begin with a lecture from Charles M. Stang, Harvard Divinity School Professor in Early Christian Thought. Then we'll work with director Kirsten Z. Cairns, reading through the play together, then working on particular scenes in small groups. No acting experience or knowledge of the play is needed--scripts will be provided.
